El Pasoans Fighting Hunger and the El Paso Community College Student Art Society will hold their annual “Empty Bowls El Paso” banquet.
Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. The basic premise is simple: Potters and other crafts people, educators and other individuals work with the community to create handcrafted bowls.
Participants can sample soups made by the EPCC culinary students and are given a bowl to keep as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The money raised is donated to El Pasoans Fighting Hunger (formerly known as the West Texas Food Bank).
Statistics show that 1 out of 8 Americans struggle with food insecurity every day. Millions of people have lost their jobs during the most recent recession and the number of food stamp recipients has increased dramatically.
