Known as an admired destination, McKelligon Canyon is located on the south eastern side of the Franklin Mountains surrounded by desert canyon walls. People can rock climb, hike, run, walk and bike. Fresh air, beautiful scenery, and a trail that is not too hard, but not too easy.
Please note, McKelligon Canyon is part of the Franklin Mountains State Park and therefore is subject to fees and restrictions from the Texas parks and Wildlife Department.
Directions/Description: From the Junction of US-54 and I-10, you will take US-54 to the Fred Wilson exit. You will turn left (west) on Fred Wilson and proceed up the hill and around the left bend to the McKelligon Canyon Rd. entrance. You will turn right into McKelligon Canyon and proceed into the park. Although rock climbing can take place at several locations, a popular site can be located behind the Amphitheatre.
