The El Paso Public Library, Parks and Recreation and hundreds of other local organizations hold an annual celebration of children and literacy. The entire community comes together at a local park to take part in free, fun and educational activities for the whole family. The event draws thousands of participants each year. Some of the activities include a parade and healthy heart walk, music and performance stage and a free book giveaway. Organizers have given away more than 150,000 books to children since the event began in 1997.
